This Health and Safety Representative Training (Refresher) course is designed to renew the knowledge and skills that the H&S Representative attained during their initial five-day HSR training course. This will assist them in with ensuring the business improves health and safety at the workplace.

DRA Safety Specialists is a WorkSafe Queensland approved provider of this course, which is compliant under the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (Qld).

Health and Safety Representative Refresher Training – 1 Day Course Overview

This 1-day Health and Safety Representative Training (Refresher) course has a Safety Consultant that updates the participants knowledge and skills as necessary to fulfil their role as a Health and Safety Representative (HSR) in Queensland. DRA Safety and the Safety Consultant trainers are WorkSafe Queensland approved provider of this course under the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (Qld). Workers must have completed the 5-day training course or have completed a 1-Day refresher in the past 3 years before completing this training.

Employers are required to allow the HSR to take paid time off work to attend this training and pay for training costs.

At the successful completion of the training the participant will receive a health and safety representative certificate as proof of attaining this certification.

What is Covered in the Refresher Training for the Health and Safety Representative

The key areas covered by the Safety Consultant during this Health and Safety Representative Training (Refresher) course include a condensed version of the 5-day course.

Some of the key topics are:

– Duties of various parties including the health and safety representative role.
– Requirements and mechanisms for consultation in the workplace on work health and safety issues.
– The role, entitlements and protections available for HSRs and Health and Safety Committees (HSCs).
– Resolving workplace health and safety issues through negotiation and conflict resolution and the provision of work health and safety courses.
– Identifying hazards and ways in which they can be eliminated or minimised.

Each of these topics lead to the HSR possibly issuing a provisional improvement notice (PIN) after consulting with the other party. Only the HSR that has attended the approved training course can issue the provisional improvement notice (PIN). These courses are approved under section 21 of the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 being:
– an initial five-day training course
– a one day refresher course.

Course Inclusions

Each Trainee Must

– Have successfully completed a WorkSafe Queensland approved 5-day initial Health and Safety Representative training course in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 within the last three years, or
– Completed a WorkSafe Queensland approved Health and Safety Representative Refresher Training course in the past last three years.
– Provide proof of being at least 18 years of age.
– Provide 3 evidence of identity (EOI) documents on the morning of day 1 of training. To view the types of documents you can provide Click here.
– Have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills.
– Have the ability to read and write English.
